A negativity of musicians wishing to recreate certain sounds, structures and styles of the past, is the idea that perhaps we are degrading the original noises and sounds produced, such as traditional folk music. We are wishing to emulate it within our own creative processes and work, so much so that it perhaps collapses the original idea of being inspired and wishing to show appreciation of that past music.
Adorno deals with this idea of looking back on a certain situation, feeling the need to refer to it within a creative practice and therefore insulting the original situation itself. He specifically speaks of writing poetry after Auswitch, referring to the horrors, as a “crime” fundamentally since it cripples and weakens the original horror of the crimes committed there. Of course it is a much more serious idea that Adorno is addressing here rather than the “crimes of nostalgic musicians”, but I feel that his logic of thought in this argument brings a valid point to the logic of though I wish to bring towards musicians and their constant reference to music of the past.
blah blah blah.

hey is this from your essay? so you're saying that when a musician referances the work of another musician, they are in someway doing the original an injustice or missing the piont in someway?
i wonder what music would sound like if it were made by someone who never heard music before.
