The Gawk Story

Old blog post : 1

At 18 and on the verge of coming out, I cowered in the corner of A Different Light Bookstore. At 25 years old, composing gay pop songs, I got the courage to perform at Out Music.A song entitled “Down on Love” was a crowd pleaser. Afterwards I announced that I wasmoving to San Francisco. I received positive feedback on my song. “Sorry, I didn’t like your song but I feel compelled to tell you that I spotted some information about SanFrancisco. Good luck.”
A week after I landed in San Francisco I called the Grand Poo Bah and High Mighty Muck of GAWK. Sugar may be the hippest guy I ever met. A walking rock soul database, author (contacted and then dropped by Alyson Publications), strip show comic, ex-leadsinger of the White trash Debutantes, former KPFA radio personality, and ex-sex cluboperator. He currently DJs at Mars Bar nightclub, at the edge of the hipster ghetto, alternate Friday nights.
When I moved from NYC without knowing a soul I knew there would be queer organizations to help me along.

I wish I still had the flyer, it upsets me so much I don't have it anymore.
